MANDATE: The Treasurer oversees GWZ’s financial management, including budgeting, accounting and reporting. She prepares the annual budget, presents financial updates to the board and ensures compliance with policies and regulations. Additionally, she develops fundraising strategies and chairs the finance committee.

BIOGRAPHY: Dr. Pamela Chirwa-Banda is a results-driven researcher and development specialist with over 25 years of experience across Africa, focused on advancing education, public health and population studies. Dr. Pamela has consulted for prestigious organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, leading projects that address critical health and education needs in sub-Saharan Africa. Her contributions have significantly improved community health outcomes and educational access across the region.
Dr. Pamela holds a Ph.D. in Demography and Population Studies from the University of Witwatersrand, including certifications in monitoring and evaluation, social protection, and sustainable development. Her research, published widely in high-impact journals and edited volumes, covers topics ranging from maternal health and family violence to multi-morbidity and public health in African populations. In recognition of her academic excellence, she has received several awards, including the Golden Key International High Achiever Recognition Award (2017), the Andrew Mellon Foundation Scholarship (2015), and multiple postgraduate merit awards. Her contributions are also evident in her leadership roles, including as a Board Member for Mulungushi University, external examiner at Univeristy of Lusaka and a peer reviewer for leading journals like BMC, LANCET and SSM. She has also chaired high-level panels at scientific conferences, including the National Research and Innovation Symposium in Zambia.
Currently, Dr. Pamela is serving as the Principal University Education Officer under the Directorate of University Education, Ministry of Education in Zambia. She is a committed member of multiple professional organizations: Graduate Women Zambia, International Union for the Scientific Study of Population and the Population Association of Southern Africa.
